Re: PHOTOSHOP THREAD: Thanks, M.A. Larson!
time to learn how to make a .gif...brb
I'm gonna need GIMP and the Freemake Video Converter to grab some things from youtube.
edit: I hate GIMP. I'm gonna punch my monitor like this guy if I keep this up. someone else do this for me. put princess twi on the monitor of this .gif
I fucking despise GIMP. I can't even figure out how to select a frame to edit. All I want to do is add Princess Twi to frames 1-12. Is that so hard?
edit 1 million: I think I figured it out. you have to get rid of blasted eyes I think.

Click on a layer in the layer selection dialogue box to select it, shift+click on the eyeball to make it the only layer to view.EquestriaGuy wrote:edit 1 million: I think I figured it out. you have to get rid of blasted eyes I think.
Does anyone know how to fix this GIMP bug?
Charlemagne is the correct font for that text, but GIMP just displays it as the default sans serif for some reason.

Re: PHOTOSHOP THREAD: Thanks, M.A. Larson!
Is Charlemagne the only font that isn't displaying correctly? If so I don't have a fix, but I do notice that sometimes it's hard to select the text properly to change fonts/sizing. If all else fails you could do the text in PowerPoint or Paint and import it into GIMP as an image file. (Can't wait to see that thing you're making, by the way.)Venusy wrote: Does anyone know how to fix this GIMP bug?

EquestriaGuy, it's true that GIMP isn't the most intuitive program and it has no user manual to speak of. Pretty much everything I've ever learned has been the result of typing "how do I do _____ in GIMP" into Google.
One happy note: I've been using GIMP off and on since 2008, but in the last month and a half (since Twilight's Bad Day) I've learned more than in the previous four years combined. Thanks

^^^ Mancow did agree to be waterboarded during the whole Guantanomo thing and agreed that it was torture, so good on him for putting his money where his mouth is. (Fun fact: I've been on the Mancow show, for all of five minutes.)

Re: PHOTOSHOP THREAD: Thanks, M.A. Larson!
There are a few others that don't work, like Wingdings and Webdings. I've done some checking and this appears to be a bug with the font library they used for 2.8, but I'm never going back to 2.6 for any reason.PictishBeast wrote:

Hex editing the text is done, just need to record it. Then comes the much harder bit of manually editing the frames to add Princess Twilight! Unless anyone has suggestions for easy to use video editors, or I can figure out how to use AviSynth.

Wait, there's a GIMP 2.8? I thought 2.6 was the current version.
I guess I'm going to have to upgrade now.

Yes, holy crap do this right now. Just the fact that it condenses into 1 window like PS rather than having 5 dialogs scattered about all over your screen is enough for me to never use 2.6 againKronos wrote:Wait, there's a GIMP 2.8? I thought 2.6 was the current version.

And researching on it - layer trees?! Oh my god I need this like yesterday. A massive file I'm currently working on is starting to choke at close to 180 layers (and these are mostly clear aside from what amounts to a small box with text in it) but I can't compress any of it in case I need to move something.

I too listened to Mancow from around ages 11-14, when he was on Rock 103.5. The gif is a clip from an Eagle Man commercial he was in.Adelor Lyon wrote: Mancow!

Gimp is actually an elaborate marketing campaign by Adobe designed to infuriate its users to the point that they'll just buy Photoshop instead

I installed GIMP once. It took ten exorcists to uninstall.

I mean, it was worse when it was multi-window before(ugh) but I don't really see how it's a pain to use now.

Gimp is actually pretty easy, comparatively. If you have problems using it, you probably don't have the know-how to handle any non-basic image editing programs.

Re: PHOTOSHOP THREAD: Thanks, M.A. Larson!
Question: how mad would everyone be if I embedded a 16.2MB gif that would likely bring browsers to their knees?
Honestly though, because of the way this one was done, I'm thinking I might be better throwing some audio on it and sticking it on YouTube.
EDIT: Eh, whatever, the indexing has done a number on it, but I can still upload the GIF version.

I just wish one of those shots wasn't at such an awkward angle.

I met the guy who makes these videos, he's hilarious. These videos are also very informative along with being hilarious. The episode involving the cat with bladder issues is fantastic The majority of these videos will also apply to GIMP, namely the core basics.
(Note: Do not take these videos seriously in terms of the "story", it's all an act. Aside from the ring, they actually did sell a Ring of Infinite Sorrows)
