Not Missiles:
Boosters: 4, 2 (+6%)
Two-Pony Capsule: 3, 1, 1 (+5%)

Kishmaraaf:
Two-Man Capsule: 2, 4, 4, 4, 3 (+17%)
Kicker: 2, 5, 6, 3, 5 (+21%)

Pegasopolis:
Boosters: 3, 2, 5, 1, 6 (+17%)

October 9, 1962

Pegasopolis Lunar Probe Landing
Rushing: -2%
Two-Stage Rocket: 94-2%
Lunar Probe: 85-2%

The good news is that the probe made it to Earth orbit. The bad news is that it suffered a power failure once it got there.

Better luck next time.

Launch: 79 PASS
Earth Orbital Burn: 46 PASS
Earth Mission Burn: 91 FAIL
Massive power drain, payload dead in space.

Pegasopolis loses 6 budget.

November 1, 1962

Kishmaraaf Orbital Docking
Rushing: -1%
One-Stage Rocket: 87-1%
Boosters: 86-1%
One-Man Capsule: 84-1%
Orbital Satellite: 97-1%
Docking: 50-1%
Anonymous Astronaut 4: 0%

A month later, the anonymous astronaut doesn't even make it to Earth orbit. The capsule's engine's gimbaling jams, sending the craft spinning out of control and back towards the surface. Tumbling into the superheated air sideways, the poor capsule never stood a chance.

Launch: 82 PASS
Earth Orbital Burn: 87 FAIL
Engine burn failure, craft out of control, go to reentry. Lose 1d10 safety. (1)
Re-entry: 85 FAIL
Heat shield failure, vehicle and crew lost.

Anonymous Astronaut 4 has died. In the wake of the accident, the One-Man Capsule's safety has been reset to 40%. Kishmaraaf loses 10 budget.

December 10, 1962

Not Missiles Lunar Probe
Two-Stage Rocket: 92%
Lunar Probe: 85%
Photo Reconnaissance: 65%

Technically, things go better. Unfortunately, not as good as they could have. Due to a failure in the lunar probe's landing radar, it fails to work out when it should land and lands the hard way. But at least it got a few pictures out of the deal.

Launch: 81 PASS
Earth Orbital Burn: 66 PASS
Earth Mission Burn: 36 PASS
Lunar Orbital Burn: 41 PASS
Lunar De-Orbital Burn: 79 PASS
Photo Reconnaissance: 66 FAIL
Retro radar failure, probe crashes.

Budget goes down by 6.

December 20, 1962

Not Missiles Lunar Probe The Sequel
Two-Stage Rocket: 93%
Lunar Probe: 86%
Photo Reconnaissance: 70%

Things go more or less the same. This time, the probe's IMU doesn't align properly and it "lands" upside down. The camera does not double as a landing leg.

Launch: 1 PASS
Earth Orbital Burn: 34 PASS
Earth Mission Burn: 30 PASS
Lunar Orbital Burn: 66 PASS
Lunar De-Orbital Burn: 11 PASS
Photo Reconnaissance: 91 FAIL
Probe fails to align to landing sites and crashes.

Yup.

December 31, 1962

Pegasopolis Orbital Docking
Two-Stage Rocket: 95%
One-Pony Capsule: 82% (Next failure countered)
Orbital Satellite: 96%
Docking: 45%
Lightning Dust: 0%

Somepony is sweating bullets for this one as she gets loaded into the capsule. There's a very close call in orbit when the retrorockets cause some power arcing in the wiring, but by some miracle no fire starts. Using her pegasus brains, she skillfully navigates the capsule to the docking module and successfully attaches. After a brief hoof-pump, she returns to Earth.

Launch: 82 PASS
Earth Orbital Burn: 59 PASS
Earth Orbital Activities: 99 FAIL
Retrorocket failure, power arc causes flash fire. Crew lost.
CAPSULE FAILURE COUNTERED
Docking Module Power On: 15 PASS
Docking: 34 PASS
Earth De-Orbit Burn: 70 PASS
Reentry: 31 PASS
Recovery: 31 PASS

Pegasopolis somehow makes it to the first mared docking achievement. Works out to a total of 15 budget.

Accident was clearly fault of untrained pilots. Kishmaraaf must work to better astronauts as fast as they can! Your next planned mission must have multiple astronauts, at least one of which must be a 0% save. If you accept, gain 30 MB budget next year. If you decline, lose 17 budget. Accept and fail, and you will lose half your budget.

We are off to an excellent start as the rocket promptly blows up on the pad.

6 budget down the drain.

November 28, 1963

Kishmaraaf Venus Flyby
1 month rushed
Interplanetary Satellite: 90-1%

Glorious Kishmaraaf satellite arrives at Venus! Venus very cloudy, very hot, and it rains acid. Not good place for Glorious Leader's vacation home. Maybe send one of the horses instead.

Welp.

December 24, 1963

Interplanetary Satellite: 92%

While the probe manages to make orbit, a software error causes its antenna to be misaligned and its valuable data is sent to Jupiter instead.

Venus Orbital Burn: 74 PASS

-3 budget. The RNG just does not like this game.

Some minor sparking causes the launch to be delayed while the crew investigates. They try again and then there's some major sparking and a minor fire. They were able to put it out, but Muffins is not going to space today.

Launch: 90 FAIL
Last-second abort. Reroll launch.
Launch: 87 FAIL
Minor fire, launch aborted. Lose 1d10 safety (8) Crew and hardware recovered.

10 budget lost, but you got your hardware back. Merry Christmas, your present is Muffins gets to live.

December 29, 1963

Kishmaraaf Manned Lunar Pass
1 milestone skipped

Boosters: 88-3%
2-Man Capsule: 85-3%
Kicker: 95-3%
Stalwart Citizen/Anonymous 6: 40%/0% (20% average)

All goes well. Two citizens go into space, and go around the moon! Kishmaraaf laughs at RNG! Laughs! Backside of moon is very grey and lumpy. One day will be Kishmaraaf's.

Capsule returns to Earth. But tragedy strikes. Parachutes fail to deploy. Two souls sacrificed to the glory of Kishmaraaf.

Launch: 56 PASS
Earth Orbital Burn: 5 PASS
Earth Mission Burn: 35 PASS
In-Route Activities: 61 PASS
Earth De-Orbital Burn: 81 PASS
Re-Entry: 50 PASS

Computer glitch, payload misaligned, sent into deep space.

Good news is it landed. Bad news is that it landed on a very steep hillside and its antenna couldn't align itself with the earth. Sigh.

Earth Orbital Burn: 47 PASS
Earth Mission Burn: 20 PASS
Lunar Orbital Burn: 55 PASS
Lunar De-Orbital Burn: 76 PASS

Unfortunately, the anxiety caused by having to live up to its predecessor was too much for the poor thing and it lost power in orbit.

At least the satellite went up fine. Kishmaraaf denies accusations of it broadcasting propaganda.

Not Missiles:
One-Pony Module: 6, 4, 4, 2, 3 (+19%)

Kishmaraaf: +1
Two-Man Capsule: 5 (+6%)

Pegasopolis: -1
Two-Pony Module: 3, 5, 1, 5, 6 (+15%)
Three-Pony Minishuttle: 6, 3, 6, 1, 6 (+17%)

June 19, 1966

Not Missiles Mars Flyby
Interplanetary Satellite: 91%

Mars is still as cruel as ever, as a guidance error sends the probe into the planet's atmosphere.

Mars Orbital Burn: 78 PASS
Mars Orbital Activities: 96 FAIL

June 24, 1966

Kishmaraaf Manned Lunar Pass
1 milestone skipped
Two-Stage Rocket: 92-3%
Boosters: 92-3%
Two-Man Capsule: 85-3%
Kicker: 96-3%
Anonymous Astronaut 5: 0%
Anonymous Astronaut 8: 0%

Things go well at first. On the way to the moon, the communications cut out. After a few bits of switch-flipping, the crew switches to the backup and all is well. Then disaster strikes. In earth orbit, the engine burns out early. This time, the backup does not help. They are alive, but stuck.

Launch: 65 PASS
Earth Orbital Burn: 52 PASS
Earth Mission Burn: 40 PASS
In-Route Activities: 88 FAIL
Communication failure, minor problem, backup OK. Proceed with mission.
Lunar Mission Burn: 16 PASS
In-Route Activities: 47 PASS
Earth De-Orbital Burn: 94 FAIL
Premature burnout, attempts to restart fail, crew stranded.

The crew has been stranded in Earth orbit.

Thankfully, each of you has enough hardware to attempt a rescue, and each of you may make a single attempt. Since this is in earth orbit, all you need to try is a rocket and a capsule. Thankfully, you all have some to spare.

If you use a two-mare capsule, it will use the unmanned rules until the Kishmaraaf astronauts get aboard. If you use a three-mare, you can put a single astronaut on it (and whoever you use won't be available to fly next turn). If you use the one-mare you are a total jerk and have to choose who to save and who to leave for someone else to rescue.

Chrysalis, Rainbow, you would have to scrub a mission to free up a pad. I will not impose a budget penalty for doing so. Leader, you have a free one so you can go ahead.

Rainbow's docking module isn't in the right orbit to help, and only Glorious Leader has one in the warehouse. Without docking, the crew would have to emergency EVA at half safety.

The launch will be at half safety due to the super-rush, and there will be a 5% penalty on all safety tests.

The mission would be:
Liftoff - Rocket/Boosters - No Save - Half safety
Earth Orbital Burn - Capsule - No Save
Earth Orbital Activities - Capsule
If using a docking module: Docking Module Power On - Orbital Satellite
Earth Orbital Rendevous - Capsule
Docking - Capsule - Rolled for both
If docking fails or no module: EVA - Half safety
Earth De-Orbital Burn - Capsule
Re-Entry - Capsule - No Save
Recovery - Capsule - No Save

Please decide among yourselves who is going to try this thing and in what order.
