It was just announced that a brand new MLP show will air next year, called "Pony Life"
Pony Life relocates the ponies to Sugarcube Corner, a local bakery hangout run by Pinkie Pie, which also houses a mysterious cache of magical potions to be broken out when the need arises. The new series will feature all of Friendship Is Magic‘s beloved ensemble — including Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, and Fluttershy — as well as the same voice actors returning.
I, uh... I'll give it a shot! Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised? Though I genuinely thought one of those faces was from one of those old edgy flash pony shorts.
What I loved about FiM (among many other things) was the mix between slice-of-life and more adventure-orientated stories. This just screams "LOL, so R-A-N-D-O-M!" Is this full G5 or some sort of filler?
It could even be a contractual obligation with Discovery Family, that any MLP shows have to be with them through 2020 as suggested by some old leaked documents. Pony Life might be finishing out the last year of that and keeping attention on MLP while G5's show is being developed and produced.
At any rate, I'm feeling cautiously optimistic, at least better about this than I felt about EqG when it first got announced. Maybe Hasbro will do something funny with this miniseries?
The art style has grown on me as the day's gone on. I definitely expect this to be aping Teen Titans Go, but who knows if the humor will be quite the same.
This was almost definitely made to fill in 2020 Pony material once the G5 movie was delayed to 2021.
As for generation nomenclature, I've been going with G4.5, since this shares a lot of similarities with G3.5. There is also precedence for still just calling this G4, from my My Little Pony n' Friends and My Little Pony Tales were both G1.
I imagine it'll look better when animated. If FiM's clipart was anything to go by, then the art we're seeing here is some of the earliest concept art which the show itself will have already cleaned up and iterated upon once we get to see it. In fact, watch the video closely and you can see it barely does the thing with the mouths. Instead the video opts to make their eyes bigger and a little higher on the face with the eyes layered over their hair (a bit like my style).
It doesn't look like Pony Life will get anything more than one season, so while it won't undergo the stylistic refinement that FiM received over its long run, I expect the animators (Boulder Media?) will turn it into something they're a little more comfortable with over however many episodes this gets.
That first post made a bunch of people high five each other saying, "See, even Faust disapproves of this!" but it turns out she meant the exact opposite. The early development notes saying not to make Pinkie a spaz were sent to her from higher ups.
Looks cute! I'm deffo gonna check this out when it airs. Faces are... different, but we'll see how that turns out in animation.
I like that the ponies have a clear distinction between legs and hooves, now, with the bit of fluff hanging over. That was a detail I missed in the previous incarnation.
This makes it more likely we'll get a Pony Life Equestria Girls animation.
Funnily, these toys more closely resemble the normal G4 Equestria Girls designs than the previous toys. Well, aside from Celestia and Luna looking better here than in the animation. Also, Starlight and Sunset confirmed.
The animation is cute, but I really wish Hasbro would pay Tara Strong and Andrea Libman to phone in a few lines instead of getting by with incidental noises from whichever intern can do a half-decent impression.
