For anyone who might not keep up with the comics thread, there's a new Humble Bundle with a massive collection of the comics again.

So I'm slowly catching up--going through season 6 for the first time. I did not like the way Newbie Dash or whatever it's called went. It seems like one message was nearly "hey kids, hazing is good actually".
Very math.

Jim Miller is getting death threats on social media from fans who didn't like the finale. This fandom sucks.

It must be infuriating to work on something you hope fans are really going to enjoy when the time comes, and not only does it come out early but you get death threats as well.

The internet has made it way easier for folks to connect with creators, which is both a blessing and a curse. People who forget they are dealing with human beings fucking suck, and people who get this upset about a TV show fucking suck.

I’m still trying to catch up but I don’t know if I’ll make it before the US airing, just starting season 6 now

I'm not even sure what they were mad about to begin with. I don't think Big Jim knew either.

Stop-motion animation using the toys and various crafting materials is really nice, unlike that last video. If only Hasbro could've gotten some actual lines from the show's cast.

Re: General Show Chat - Season 9 appreciation station
Except for the awkward long giggling at the end it was great! It's actually a very effective way to promote the toys and their application in a simple story to replay at home. I'm a big fan of the WB Roadrunner cartoons so I don't mind that there were no spoken lines.

So, now that the show's ending, season 3 is finally getting dubbed into Japanese via Disney's Dlife mobile streaming service, and I think it might also be on BS satellite? They also threw the first two seasons on Japanese Amazon Prime. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like anyone's recording it and torrenting it like they did for the earlier seasons.
Here's dubbed Babs Seed, if you have a Nico Douga account.
Also, it looks like they released the movie on DVD in Japanese.

Why does the Japanese dub matter more than those of other languages?

It doesn't. But they've also been left hanging since season 2, unlike most other countries.

Re: General Show Chat - Season 9 appreciation station
I wonder if they kept the same voice cast. They had a pretty impressive cast for the dub, with a lot of new stars doing the mane 6, and some very popular veterans doing supporting cast duty.
I had a great list on the old site, wish it survived.
Some that I remember off the top of my head were...
Emiri Katou (Kyubey in Madoka Magica) as Fluttershy
Ikue Otani (voice of Pikachu for 20 years) as Apple Bloom
Kikuko Inoue (Belldandy in Ah! My Goddess) as Celestia

Re: General Show Chat - Season 9 appreciation station
Here's your list:
The movie's listing on Amazon says the regular cast are the same (at least, the ones who are listed), while the new appearances are:
Capper: Daisuke Namikawa (Giorno Giovanna from JJBA Golden Wind, the Rotom Pokédex from Pokemon Sun & Moon, Musashi from Musashi Gundoh )
Tempest Shadow: Sanae Kobayashi (Kiyora Miki from Nodame Cantabile, Tohya Akira from Hikaru no Go, the Ice Climbers in SSB:Ultimate)
Songbird Serenade: Kumagai Mirei (seems to be a new voice actress, has had bit parts in anime, video games, and dubbed American movies)
I'm not sure if there have been any changes in the show's cast, although some people have been mentioning that Applejack sounds more manly than in earlier seasons.

Re: General Show Chat - Season 9 appreciation station
EQD posted some of the songs from the S3 opener....
I checked the MLP wikia, and if it's accurate, they appear to have changed all the VAs. Most of them seem to have very short resumes
Which means we're not getting Belldandy singing Celestia's Ballad in the S3 finale.

Ah right, I was actually the one who searched for and sent those videos to ED, but I forgot to post them here.
Besides the new VAs probably being cheaper, someone in the ED comments mentioned that the Milky Holmes VAs that provided most of the Mane Six voices broke up and other projects with them as voices ended.

Unfortunate, since the old cast were a pretty good match for the English voices.
These songs also sound heavy on the autotune.

8 PM Eastern, specifically.
There will also be a program about the making of the show airing one day prior, at 5 PM Eastern on October 11.

In honor of the 9th anniversary of the show yesterday... that leaker leaked a bunch of stuff again. Basically every draft of every episode ever (including cut episode premises), bible assets, more email correspondences, storyboards, initial song lyrics & recordings...

Re: General Show Chat - Season 9 appreciation station
Given that FiM's production wrapped a few months ago, then either the leaker's been sitting on this stuff for quite a while or DHX's cybersecurity is legendarily awful.
Be advised that this has what appear to be a few scattered clips from the finale. If you'd prefer to avoid seeing them, save this for Sunday.

They should have waited a week. I'm less critical of leaks like this after the fact as a look behind the curtain.Wayoshi wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2019 6:21 pmIn honor of the 9th anniversary of the show yesterday... that leaker leaked a bunch of stuff again. I'm mostly surprised they managed to interview Lauren Faust for some of that. She seemed pretty determined to distance herself from the show pretty hard after she left.

Re: General Show Chat - Season 9 appreciation station
Yeah, and I was a little about them segueing from her to a thing about EqG knowing now for sure that that's uhhh kinda what made her leave.
On another note, I suppose I do have to say this: I think the show went downhill musically as it went on. Post-S3 or so there's just really nothing to compare with earworms like Winter Wrap Up or Art of the Dress or Becoming Popular. And even the score became pretty generic-sounding, compared with the textural themes I remember from S1, like the CMCs' montage music and the Apple farm theme and so on. There are a few exceptions here and there, sure, and I do like the way the finale song came together, but it still inescapably feels kind of compared to what hooked me in at the beginning and kept me replaying everything. I can't quite picture throngs of fans doing remixes of the latter-season songs, you know...?

Lauren Faust also appeared at the final Bronycon few months back. I guess, with the show being done, she's more willing to attach herself to the show she created a decade ago.

Re: General Show Chat - Season 9 appreciation station
While I largely agree about the songs, Daniel Ingram was still capable of putting out good stuff in the later seasons.
This:
Is my personal favorite song in the whole show, for instance. The movie's soundtrack is also quite impressive, IMO.

Re: General Show Chat - Season 9 appreciation station
I for one liked that the amount of songs became fewer.
For me musical numbers are a nuisance that disturb the narrative in an unnatural way.
Yeah, they can be catchy but I prefer them as a separate product outside of the episode nonetheless.

While I kind of agree, it's amusing because I've had post-S3 pony songs stuck in my head for the past day and a half that I haven't even heard for at least a year: "Find the Music In You", "You'll Play Your Part", "Let the Rainbow Remind You", "We'll Make Our Mark", "The Magic Inside"Headless Horse wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2019 11:01 amOn another note, I suppose I do have to say this: I think the show went downhill musically as it went on. "Smile Song", "Let The Rainbow Remind You", "This Day Aria", "Babs Seed", "A Kirin Tale" and "The Magic Inside" are some of my favorites. "Rainbow" from the movie was good as well.
