Obituary Thread - Those We've Lost Recently

Didn't realize we never remade this thread for the new site. Today's news hit me hard, so here's the new thread.

Celebrity Chef Anthony Bourdain found dead of an apparent suicide. He was 61 and had a wife and 11-year-old daughter. :fluttersmith:

He was a very good writer and he wrote several good books, too. Adventures in the Screen Trade, Marathon Man, and the original book version of The Princess Bride are all worth a read.

Adventures in the Screen Trade will make you wonder how anyone ever manages to make a good movie in Hollywood at all. :-I

Shit, that hits me hard :fluttersmith:

I never got to meet or talk to him, although when I worked on the SpongeBob comic books he was involved in approving every story that got printed, including mine.

Godspeed, Mr. Hillenburg.

:fluttersmith: 57 is way too young to die, and ALS is a bad way to go.

I wonder if Trump is gonna be banned from his funeral as well. 3 in one year would be impressive. :ponder:

He was the oldest living president in history. Jimmy Carter can surpass it in a few months.

Bush Sr. was president when I was born. Kinda surreal that there's a president from my lifetime that's passed on.

This also means that Jimmy Carter outlived two succeeding presidents (Martin Van Buren holds the record for outliving four succeeding presidents).

yeah but one of those was William Henry Harrison and that really shouldn't count.

We just covered this era in my APUSH class and what a disaster it was. Harrison dies, his VP is so terrible he gets kicked out of his own party (and later supports the Confederacy). Then Polk is elected and sure, fair enough... then Polk dies of cholera a couple months after leaving office. His successor gets food poisoning at a 4th of July party and dies (giving birth to a conspiracy theory that he was poisoned by Southerners for rejecting the Compromise of 1850), and the next three presidents after him are Doughfaces who land the country in a civil war.

Dick Dale, King of the Surf Guitar, died of cancer at 81 this weekend. He had already survived two bouts with cancer.

He’s best known for “Misirlou” thanks to Pulp Fiction, but dude had a pretty deep catalog. Here he is, playing with Stevie Ray Vaughn:

The worst part is that he had to keep touring just to afford his healthcare.

I also recently found out that Scott Walker (the musician) passed away on March 22. :fluttersmith:

Found out that Chris Reccardi, writer, artist, and director on cartoons such as "Ren and Stimpy", "Powerpuff Girls", "Dexter's Lab", as well as co-creating "The Modifiers" pilot with his wife Lynne Naylor, has died.

He was only 54, too. Shit :fluttersmith:

Animator Kaj Pindal died :fluttersmith:

He's probably best known for creating "Peep and the Big Wide World", but he was also a NFB filmmaker and did a ton of funny cartoons there. One of my favorite films:
