[TM] Friendship Is Interplanetary
All of Equestria has finally been united under one banner, with ponies and the other races living in harmony. There's only one thing left to do: colonize other planets! But to do that, we must first set about Terraforming Mars.
Terraforming Mars is a game for up to five ponies or other sapient beings. You'll each head a corporation contracted out by the Equestrian government to help lead the terraforming effort. Work with each other but mostly against each other to transform a planet!
I'll explain the game as we play, but if you want to break my heart:
The Rules: http://www.fryxgames.se/TerraformingMar ... SFINAL.pdf
Official FAQ: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/170520 ... ifications
If you want to join the terraforming effort, post ##I come in peace for all of Equestria.
If you've played this game before, then post ##I come to get rich! You'll get the normal two corporation choice and the initial research phase. Or take this if you want the thrill of being told to choose a corporation and buy your opening hand with no context for what any of it means.
Finally, the game has a variant it calls the Corporate Era. The CE variant starts everyone off with no resource production and adds a whole extra pile of cards to the project deck. These cards focus on long-term effects, lengthening the game and encouraging strategic planning. It's not recommended for new players, but when has that stopped us? If you want to play with the Corporate Era, also post ##We will invest in the future. If more than half of you vote for CE, we'll run it.
Also there's an expansion that throws Venus into the mix. There isn't that much to it, but it would be one more aspect (and a bunch more cards) for you to handle. I'm inclined not to use it, but if you want to terraform Venus too, speak up.
Feel free to pick out a pony or pony-like creature to be your CEO. If you're coming to get rich, then I suggest you wait on your flavor until you see your corporate options.
Like the game? Buy it!

Re: [TM] Friendship Is Interplanetary
Actions
Perform 1 or 2 actions each turn:
- Play a card
(Steel may be used to reduce the cost of a card with the building tag for 2 MB/steel. Titanium may be used to reduce the cost of a card with the space tag for 3 MB/titanium.)
- Use a standard project
- Use an action on a played card
- Convert 8 plants into a greenery tile and raise oxygen
- Spend 8 heat to raise temperature 1 step (2 °C)
- Claim a milestone
- Fund an award
Raising oxygen, temperature, or placing an ocean tile increases your Terraform Rating.
Tiles
When placing a tile, receive any bonus on the board where you place it.
Gain 2 MB for each ocean tile adjacent to the tile you place.
Ocean tiles: Only placeable on reserved areas. Not owned by any player. Limit 9 total.
Greenery tiles: Place next to a tile you own, if possible. Increase oxygen 1 step. Worth 1 VP.
City tiles: May not be placed next to other city tiles. Worth 1 VP for each adjacent greenery tile, regardless of owner.
Scoring
At the end of the last generation, all players will have the opportunity to convert their plants into greenery tiles.
1 VP per Terraform Rating
5 VP for winning a funded award
2 VP for second place of a funded award
5 VP per milestone claimed
1 VP per greenery tile you own
1 VP per greenery tile (of any player) adjacent to each city you own

Welcome to Mars, fine ponies and pony-like creatures. You'll be spending the next whole lot of time here, so find a nice rock and get comfortable. Someday that rock will be a bush or at least some moss. Until then, we have work to do.
If you each check your PMs, you will see that you have drawn ten project cards. These cards are the fancy stuff you'll be able to do to convert Mars into somewhere livable.
Let me go over the status there.
The game is played over a series of generations. In each generation, you will take turns doing nice things for the planet.
The Global Parameters track how far along you collectively are at turning the red planet green. Or greener, anyways.
A warm temperature is needed for the oceans to be water and not ice. 8 °C isn't much for an average equatorial temperature, but it'll do.
Ocean coverage will give the planet a proper water cycle. Nine tiles worth will suffice.
And being able to breathe would be good. 14% oxygen is about equivalent to 10,000 feet altitude on Earth, and there are a few major Earth cities at that altitude.
In your player section, you will see all your fancy resources.
Your Terraform Rating (TR) shows how much you personally have contributed to the terraforming effort. Every time you increase a Global Parameter, you gain TR. Not only is your TR worth points at the end of the game, it affects your income.
Specifically, you get MegaBits (MB) every generation equal to your TR, plus (or minus) your MB production. Game effects will alter how much that is for each of your resources. Speaking of:
Steel is used to pay for building cards. If you have a card tagged Building, you can reduce its cost by 2 MB for every steel you pay.
Titanium is the same, except for Space cards, and each is worth 3 MB.
Plants can get turned into greenery tiles, which gives you points and raises the oxygen level (which gets more TR).
Lots of cards want energy, so keep a small stockpile. Except you won't, because at the end of every generation, all remaining energy is turned into heat.
Heat can get turned into a raise in temperature, for even more TR.
Every generation, you will take turns doing actions. In every turn, you can do one or two actions. Your options are:
1) Play a card from your hand.
Post the card, pay the cost in MB, and do the thing. Here's some examples I took from the rules:
Hopefully those get the idea across on how playing cards works. But there's more actions for your turn than just them. You can also...
2) Use a standard project.
You can do one of those standard projects there in the status. Doing their equivalents with cards would be better, but you might not have a card with the effect you need right now. Or you might have cards you can't play (like that Cupola City in the late game) or cards that push some aspect you don't plan on pursuing.
Discards in Terraforming Mars are face-down.
3) Claim a milestone
If you've satisfied one of the five milestones, pay 8 MB to claim it and enjoy your 5 VP before someone else does. Only three milestones can be claimed per game.
4) Fund an award
Pick an award and pay up. Whoever wins that award at the end of the game gets 5 VP. Runner up gets 2 VP. Try to fund an award you plan on winning. The first costs 8 MB to fund, the second costs 14 MB, and the third costs 20 MB. Only three can be funded.
If an award is tied for first place, both will get 5 VP and there will be no second place. If an award is tied for second, both will get 2 VP.
5) Use the (repeatable) action on a card you already played
Like adding an animal to that Livestock.
6) Convert plants into greenery
If you have 8 plants, spend them to place a greenery tile (and raise oxygen for a TR).
7) Convert heat into temperature
8 heat becomes 2 degrees (i.e. one step and 1 TR).
If you have no actions you can (or want) to do, you may pass. Once you pass, you are out for the rest of the generation. When everyone has passed, the generation ends. Once the generation has ended, you get resources from your production and the next generation begins. The first player will become the last player in the turn order, you will draw 4 project cards, and you will have to pay that 3 MB for each new one you want to keep.
Once all three Global Parameters are full, the game will end when the generation does. Anyone with 8+ plants will be given a chance to turn them into greenery tiles, then we score based on the second post (and VP on cards you've played). Whoever did best job terraforming wins.

Re: [TM] Friendship Is Interplanetary
Also there's a map.
That's what Mars looks like. You can see all the hexagonal spaces for tiles there, ready for your goodies.
There are a few tile placement restrictions:
Only oceans can be placed on the blue spaces, and they can't be placed anywhere else. Oceans have no owner.
Nothing can go in the Noctis City space except Noctis City itself, which is placed by a project card of the same name.
Cities can't be placed next to cities.
Greenery must be placed next to something else you own, unless that isn't possible in which case you can put it wherever.
If you place a tile on a space with a brown square on it, you get steel. Put it on a black and yellow star for titanium. Put it on a green leaf for some plants. Put it on a black rectangle for a free project card draw.
Finally, you get 2 MB per ocean adjacent to your placed tile.
I'll probably post a new map whenever a tile is placed. Maybe every two or three. No promises.
Rainbow Dash is first, so either one or two actions, please.
