Re: GSM IV
Fuck off, Penders.
I still get the occasional "girlfriend question" from family members, though I get the feeling that they mostly think I'm gay nowadays, since asexuality isn't even on their radar. Shit like this, though, is just obnoxious.
1) Asexuality does not preclude meaningful and close relationships. Sex ≠ happiness.
2) Adoption is a thing. "Being the end of the line of their family genealogy" is completely meaningless and skews pretty close to eugenics arguments and the like.
Shit like this just makes me really angry. I spent so much of my life thinking that there was something seriously wrong with me, and only in the last few years have I come to grips with my lack of sexuality and accepted it as an okay thing. Seeing even the barest idea of asexuality in popular characters being treated as some travesty really hurts. Representation matters, and I really wish I could see it outside of barely implied situations like with Sonic.

This is the same guy that gave Knuckles and Julie-Su a fucking family wreath, so I don't trust him on relationships or family lines.

Re: GSM IV
Penders is an old asshole who doesn't know or care about what asexuality is actually like. It's worthwhile to remember that he had a very difficult relationship with his own father but eventually decided and managed to reconcile with him. I have a strong hunch that experience made him go in 120% on the whole "bloodline and family above all!!!1" stuff. His Knuckles storyline (Locke the really-awful-but-secretly-just-misunderstood dad is absolutely meant to be a parallel to Penders' father) shows as much, too.
You have every right to be angry. Penders is a dipshit who should keep his mouth firmly shut on life experiences that he has zero interest or empathy for. Just don't forget that you are indeed valid, and that Penders is (understandably) vilified among a lot of the fans already, and I think statements like these (as well as all the creepo shit he's said about the characters' sexual interactions!!) only dig his hole deeper. I really wish for more positive asexual representation in media as well, and I'm glad people like Penders are not in charge of that.
EDIT: Also, the dumb fuck doesn't even acknowledge that straight people can choose to not have kids or can actually happen to be incapable of having biological children, and indeed, people across all sexual orientations can look into adoption. His imagination doesn't even go that far, and that really says it all.

Re: GSM IV
If asexual people choose to donate sperm or eggs to have bio children, they have that option as well, so Penders is wrong on yet another level. Why the fuck was this talentless asshole ever popular enough to get even the tiny soapbox he has on Twitter.

Penders also had that controversy involving Sally recently.
Bottom line, he's the last person to listen to for, well, anything. Oof.

I ended my bloodline just to piss off the straights.
But seriously, not every single story needs romance. Romance thrown in for the sake of it is always terribly written and intrusive. Besides, everyone is terrified of CGI Sonic.

I bought plane tickets for my girlfriend to come see me next month!!!! We're gonna get to hang out and go take a trip and meet up with more of our friends and I'll finally get to be with her and it's really exciting!!!!!
But I couldn't find my phone this morning and had to take my dad's to work so I have a way to call home and now I'm cut off from anything that requires authentication and I can't log in anywhere and I don't have her phone number with me on this phone so I can't talk to her all day and I'm sad.........

I just came out to my sister and she was quite supportive of it. A refreshing thing compared to my parents.

Re: GSM IV
I went and talked to a doctor as it's been a long time since I had even a basic checkup, and asked her about transitioning. She said that the hospital system has a system to go through before issuing a referral to an endocrinologist, and got me a copy of the regulations. Basically see a therapist, have x amount of Real Life Experience living as your gender, etc etc.
So I made an appointment with a therapist in town, and saw her last week. She was real nice, made me perfectly comfortable. She got me the contact information for a LGBTQ+ support group here in town, as she though I'd be happier talking to people face-to-face. When I mentioned the three-month requirement thing before an endocrinologist referral, she told me about a clinic a bit north of me in Pennsylvania who could get the hormone train rolling a lot faster. So I called them, and I have an appointment tomorrow to speak to a nurse practitioner and get blood taken. So here's hoping I can leapfrog that extra time to go through the hospital system's stuff.

Yeah, I had a super easy time getting hormones in Pittsburgh by going through a dedicated clinic. Glad things are working out for you!

So, I learned today that my brother has a boyfriend. I at least knew he was bisexual from old conversations we had on the topic, so that's not a huge surprise. The real problem is that it just reminded me that he's... not exactly the best ally. He's a hardcore centrist "why can't there be straight pride?" kind of guy who just makes jokes out of everything. I don't know where I'm going with this, since I can't really do anything to change his mind. It's just frustrating, especially since we should be on the same side, here.

I've never met the guy, so
My brother is a very private person who runs in very different circles than the rest of my family. Sometimes it feels like he doesn't even live here.

As of today, I am officially on HRT. I got to pick up my medicine from the clinic while the nurse went over my bloodwork, and the next month's supply will be mailed to me. I go back in a couple months to get a new course of bloodwork done, but until then, I get to take my skittles. I was so excited/nervous to get them, and I'm so happy now.

I'm so tired of having gender issues. So tired of being disgusted by my body. Tired of periods, hips, and breasts and how two of those words are sexualized automatically because of the gender I was assigned against my will. Tired of being seen as a baby vessel or a sex object. Tired of being told periods are easy to deal with (yet if I'm mad any time it's because periods.) Tired of not being a person who's allowed to have their own opinions about their own body.
On the plus side? There seems to be less asexual discourse for now. I swear for years it was all "Asexuals are just cishets who are trying to intrude!" "Asexuals are weird, everyone should love sex and talk about it all the time" and so on. From what I can tell, it was mostly transgender women shutting down these arguments, so thanks to them! I don't know where I fit into this whole LGBT thing, but my dysphoria and asexualty are tied together like...carrots?

Re: GSM IV
So a little update from last time. My doc started me on 200 mgs of prometrium which is bioidentical progesterone. The past 3 months or so I was on 100 mgs and I have gotten much more development and I got a EKG to check my heart and there wasn't any issues there so I can get on a higher doseage. I also have been working on hair removal down there this year and it is progressing nicely. Not only is it for surgery prep but it helps with my dysphoria down there. One of the many things I am dysphoric about but I am working through.

I relate to this so much. Just reverse the gendered body parts and you've got my situation. I struggle a lot with my asexuality, too. I had internalized all that aphobic rhetoric about not being oppressed enough to be in the LGBT community, and it was only recently that I've started to not be so down on myself about it. You're not alone, and you are valid.minty wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2019 7:27 pmI'm so tired of having gender issues. So tired of being disgusted by my body.
