Ultima VI was an SNES RPG in Japanese with a lot of capture device problems.

It is undoubtedly one of the best runs entirely off the strength of squibbons's commentary.

Resident Evil 7
Resident Evil 3 race

After so many years of watching the marathons I bought myself a letter of indulgence by donating some money.

It went a little over the estimate because of some unfortunate deaths but the Bloodborne all bosses run is worth checking out due to the energy of the runner and the fact that he defeats every boss in the game (including the DLC bosses) with such a severely underleveled character.

The Dark Souls 3 and blindfolded bosses run is also pretty cool and worth checking out.

I thought it was good? But the capture device issues? Made it really difficult to watch?

They beat their record this year, thanks to sub-only mode in the chat.

They apparently got over $100k off of Twitch subscriptions & bits.

Some people complained that this AGDQ was "lacking" due to the absence of usual games like Super Metroid and a missing kill/save the animals bid war. But honestly, I found the line up of runs solid and it was nice to see donation incentives go for many of the other bid wars we had come up instead of constantly hearing "save the frames, kill the animals" every five minutes. It led to some truly memorable moments like that now infamous "IT'S MY TURN!" bid war snipe making Toad win the character war for the last stage of Super Mario 3D World.

And, quite frankly, it was nice to see Super Metroid take a break for once. I love Super Metroid but you can only watch it be raced so many times before it loses its excitement. We've seen it at every GDQ event and yeah, the Kraid quick kill and baby Metroid skip are cool, but we've seen them a million times now. Super Metroid is going to be back in the future at GDQ, I'm sure, but I did not miss it not being here this time around.

On top of that we had PLENTY of other great races this AGDQ. Resident Evil 3, Yoshi's Island, Mega Man 1-3, Super Mario World... all these races and more were fantastic. I want to see more races like that, more games you don't see that often, and I thought it was great for them to not just play it safe at have Super Metroid for the millionth time.

I totally agree with you.
The only change they should make is to include more games into the "Awful Block". These games are usually comedy gold.

Awful Games Block should take place during prime time or like, an all day thing instead of at stupid o'clock at night

I think they could diversify into things which aren't speedruns. They won't have to change the name of the event so long as they keep the non speedruns to a low level.

Low A press runs of Mario 64. Get a couple of gamers onto online multiplayer games to showcase some of the crazy things you can probably do on them. How about showing us parts of the DDR tournament they mentioned?

Also get Kid8 to play a game! Have a bidding war before the event to decide which game she plays, where the only options are the runs that are confirmed at the GDQ. Then just check in at random points over the day she's playing the game to see how far she has got. It'd be some good comedy, and something to point the camera at in the downtime.

I'm going to say something that's possibly a bit mean, but I think it's an important thing about this event.

A lot of charity events on TV will saturate their viewing with pictures of people affected by [the issue the charity works with] looking all sad with some sad music playing so we can get all guilt tripped and put up the money. What I love about GDQ is that it steers clear of that BS altogether. It's a charity event about a really heavy cause, and yet it stays positive - watch cool games, put up money to a good cause. There's very little in the way of "here's a reminder of just how awful cancer is"

I think cancer is a unique case in that you really don't need to say anything much for people to understand how shitty it is. The sad truth is that cancer is so prevalent that basically everyone has had some kind of run-in with cancer in their life, whether it was by having it themselves or a loved one. Cancer is everywhere, and nobody has to be told how much it sucks. Plus, people tell their stories sometimes when they donate, so the reminders about how much cancer affects people still come up in fairly regular intervals.

From my own experiences with charity work, a certain amount of guilttripping is basically mandatory, otherwise people tend to prefer to stay in their cushy bubble and not really do anything. The key is to make it so people both connect with the cause while also feeling good about helping, which can be tricky to balance. GDQ does this quite well, but it also has a very unique position with its community and spectacle, which helps.

Sent is the best. I can't believe he knows instant transmission. Poor SpikeVegeta (though Vegeta never learned instant trasnmission).

I'm already thinking about what games I hope to see at Summer Games Done Quick. I'm thinking Super Mario Odyssey has GOT to be there. Hopefully a 500 moon run so they can do Darker Side. I'm also hoping to see A Hat in Time and Samus Returns.

In the mean time I guess I'll catch up on good runs I missed on the stream!
