Re: MEGAMAN 11!!!!!
announced today from the 30th anniversary stream:
Megaman X1-8 are going to be released on PS4, Xbone, PC, and Switch in 2018. Dunno if it's gonna be a collection or if they'll be sold separately
Megaman Legacy Collection 1 and 2 are going to be released on Switch in 2018.
Megaman 11 is coming out late 2018 on PS4, Xbone, PC, and Switch

Re: MEGAMAN 11!!!!!
I do not like megaman, that is my hot take
though I have no qualms with battle network because it's an rpg and not a super precise platforming game
and mega man legends is good because it's a dungeon crawler sorta thing
When are we getting them rereleeaaased

This looks cute and good, and I like that they are trying something else with the graphics this time. As much as I enjoy the pixel art, it's fun to see a change.

Re: MEGAMAN 11!!!!!
To be honest I prefer the pixel graphics and chiptune music from the NES (as well as Megaman 9 and 10).
They rock.
Megaman 11 doesn't look bad, however it doesn't appeal to me very much.

Yeah, to be honest I don't really care for how 3D platformers generally look. What was wrong with the retro look of 9 and 10? They had an awesome self-awareness that Capcom seems to be lacking nowadays.

Re: MEGAMAN 11!!!!!
The problem with the classic 8-bit style is that it's very safe for Megaman. Megaman has a tried and true formula that was developed in the classic NES games and is very clear to see in 9 and 10. It doesn't rock the boat too much, if at all. It looks and sounds good, but it's Standard. That's not necessarily bad, but there's also something else to keep in mind:
There hasn't been a new Megaman game since Megaman 10 came out in 2010. Ever since then, it's been a massive drought of *anything*, in part due to Inafune parting ways with Capcom. If anything popped up, it was going to be a port. A bad port of Megaman 2 cropped up and a REALLY bad port of Megaman X popped up, both of these on mobile. Legacy Collection 1 was released as a multiplatform release, and just this year, we got Legacy Collection 2. And on top of that, some utterly absymal (even compared to the old Megaman 2 port) mobile ports of Megaman 1-6 were released.
Oh, and there was the japanese only mobile game Rockman Xover, but honestly, the less said about it, the better:
Nothing was being done with Megaman. It was all just revisiting and milking the past games, and not all of it was great (mobile ports, Xover). It's all really just taking the safe route with the series, and not doing a damn thing with it. If anything was ever going to be on the horizon, then doing something like 9 and 10 seemed most likely. Like everything else Capcom was doing with Megaman, it would the route of least resistance. Nothing would have been too out there, but it wouldn't have been bad or anything. It's just more of the same sort of thing we've seen before. It's Safe.
Enter Megaman 11 being announced, and going by what was shown and what the developers were talking about, the development team really likes Megaman and wants to bring back the series by really deviating from the standards. It's not too far out from what Megaman is, but they're trying something new and making a show of it by making a widescreen HD 2.5D Megaman game with new designs and new features (i wanna know what's up with that super blast thing at the end of the trailer). They genuinely want to do new and interesting things with Megaman, and this style really shows that the dev team really cares about it, and wants to make a fresh and modern Megaman instead of just going for the same old thing that we've seen before.
At the end of the day, there's nothing inherently wrong with the old retro look. It's just that if Capcom decided to go with it for 11, it'd feel like it's just more of a cashgrab more than anything else. It still might have been a perfectly good game, but there's just way too safe. It's too samey. Nothing that official games and fangames haven't already explored.

That being said, if you like 8-bit over this then hey, fair enough. I like that they're willing to try new things with megaman and I really like the style this game is going for.
But the 8-bit games with their pixel art and chiptunes are really great too.

Re: MEGAMAN 11!!!!!
edit: what's up with all of my double posts these days
Here's the entire stream and pre-show for those who anyone who's interested:
the stream proper starts at about a hour into the broadcast. pre-show is mostly trivia and other stuff by some streamers brought in as guests, while the stream itself has a lot of clips of the developers talking about their history with megaman as well as talking about megaman 11 itself.

Re: MEGAMAN 11!!!!!
between this and RE7 it looks like Capcom actually wants to do things again. I'm really glad they also didn't just go for nostalgia-bait too by making it 8-bit no offense to the rest of y'all.

Re: MEGAMAN 11!!!!!
We don't know that. The problem with Powered up is it didn't sell well (because it was released on the PSP 2 years into its lifetime which is around the time where people saw it as the licensed title shovel-ware handheld and also most Megaman fans were DS owners at the time.)

I mean, it's so standard that you can go into retail stores here and find this thing:Aria Genisi wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2017 5:59 pmThe problem with the classic 8-bit style is that it's very safe for Megaman. There's an official Mega Man one in the range, but I don't think Capcom is credited for this one.

Re: MEGAMAN 11!!!!!
I like the 2.5D graphics! Tbh it's a crime classic Megaman didn't do much with graphics beyond 8-bit, and both 7 and 8 have some sour to it (7 has a particularly nasty final boss and 8 is maligned for the poor voice acting), so this is extremely good to see
Is this a new stepping stone in Capcom's redemption arc? I hope so!

Re: MEGAMAN 11!!!!!
X6, while is has a ton of garbage in it, certainly has a bunch of good ideas and design in there as well. It's just that some of the bad design is just absolute garbage, but there is certainly positives to the game. It's like, for every good idea, or good bit of design, there's two or three bits of garbage added on top of it.
X7 is just a monumental trainwreck that tried to make a mix of 2D and 3D but just....failed. It utterly and completely failed. Not sure on what the exact story is behind it, but the game is just fucking awful. X6, you could make a case for it's positives, but X7 is just garbage.
X8...is actually good! It's a 2.5D game, and it's actually a solid game. Not sure on how well it fits with the rest of the series though. It's a little mixed. Some of the stage gimmicks are kinda iffy, and I've heard mixed feelings on the game from great to just alright. I think it's worth checking out at least.

Re: MEGAMAN 11!!!!! (also X Legacy Collection)
X Legacy Collection!!!!!
They're going the Legacy Collection 1 and 2 route with this, kinda, splitting the series right down the middle. The first set has X1-4, the second set has X5-8. And it has an X-Challenge mode, where you fight two entirely different bosses at once. Like Chill Penguin from X1 and Frost Walrus from X4, as shown in the trailer.
It's coming out on PC, PS4, Xbone, and Switch, seperate digitally, or together on physical. If you get it physically on switch, it'll do the Switch thing where the first one comes on the cart, while you get a digital download voucher/key for the second collection.

Re: MEGAMAN 11!!!!! (also X Legacy Collection)
I can't help but feel it's a little grubby of them splitting these collections into two releases when Mega Man and Mega Man X both has compilations in one release each back in the GameCube/PS2/Xbox era. Also the fact that that the Switch releases require such a sizable download when they were able to get all the games on a GameCube disc in the past.
I may pick up X Legacy Collection 1, though.

Re: MEGAMAN 11!!!!! (also X Legacy Collection)
A ton of 3rd parties are doing that with switch releases, even when it's just one game, and it's stupid. It's where you need to download the rest of the game from the internet. Stuff like Bayonetta 1&2 and the Resident Evil Revelations collection at least kinda justify it, where you need to download the second game.
But re: splitting it up in the first place, yeah I'd rather have it in one, but whatever. They'll sell them cheaper individually if you're only getting one. Iiirc, it's $20 for one, $40 for the complete package.

Re: MEGAMAN 11!!!!! (also X Legacy Collection)
The GC X collection only included X1-X6, not X7 and X8, and the PS2 versions of those are bigger than could fit on a GC disc (though only slightly in the case of X7).DarkMatter wrote: ↑Wed Apr 11, 2018 1:33 amI can't help but feel it's a little grubby of them splitting these collections into two releases when Mega Man and Mega Man X both has compilations in one release each back in the GameCube/PS2/Xbox era. I do feel it is a little money hungry to announce two collections at once rather than merging them, and particularly on Switch, wouldn't it be preferable to at least have the cart contain the larger of the two?

If the load times are faster now that would at least help. I haven’t played it in so long that I kinda want to give it a spin sometime.
I’ve played the first 4 to death, but X6 & X7, not so much. Vaguely remember X6 being really fun at times despite some bullshit, tho

Re: MEGAMAN 11!!!!! (also X Legacy Collection)
MEGAMAN! ELEVEN!!!!
MEGAMAN FUCKING ELEVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT'S OUT! IT'S GREAT!
oh and
hey, if you ever decide to pick this up and give it a try, do yourself a favor and PLAY IT ON CASUAL DIFFICULTY
there's four difficulties: newcomer, casual, normal, and superhero:
- Newcomer is infinite lives, the enemy placement is made easier and all sort of extra bonuses like extra checkpoints and you take less damage. It's the easy difficulty and it's clearly marked as such.
- Casual puts you on the lives system, but it gives you a bunch of lives, there's more checkpoints and it gives you *some* better items in the stages at some minor spots I guess. And maybe you take *slightly* less damage? I'm not sure. it's basically the normal difficulty, in all honesty
- Normal is NES difficulty. 3 lives, no extra benefits inherent to the difficulty. The problem with it is that it's named normal, which gives it the impression that it's the default difficulty, with newcomer and casual being easy modes for scrubs, and that's dumb and bad. this should have been called Hard or Classic difficulty instead.
- Superhero is the hard mode. This one is clearly marked. Don't try this unless you know what you're getting into.
I like this game a lot, but man, they really made a mistake with the difficulty, and while it worked out for me in the end, it's likely to give others the wrong impression of the game.
