Just finished Camp Nanowrimo for this month - was already ahead of the curve but I cranked out 10k words in a fit of inspiration to hit that magical 50k number.

Re: PYF: Post things that Happened!
Some of you might be familiar with the "reanimate" projects, where they would take an episode of a cartoon (or at least a section) and have a bunch of different people reanimate it in their own styles.
I decided to do one, if only to motivate me to learn how to animate, and while I'm nowhere close to being a good animator, I'm actually rather excited for it. I actually have the drive to continue doing more animation after I get this one done. It's been too long since I did something different, art-wise, and I think this is something I needed in life.
Also, Adobe Animate isn't as hard as I thought, which also helps.

Re: PYF: Post things that Happened!
I just found out that my first MMO; Toontown Online, was succeeded by a fan developed version (which is ABSOLUTELY FREE) that's been running for nearly five years.
I don't know what's funnier - that I am only NOW learning that enough adults cared about it to ensure the game continued to exist, or that I only learned that a rated E MMO still lives on from a subreddit about Warframe, a rated M MMO.
All I know is that the time has come. BINGO LEMONSPEED SHALL RISE AGAIN.

I found out that the pay for having the on-call pager is $0.50 more per hour than I thought!

Diribigal’s advice worked because the bank approved my repayment plan request based on the scan I made of the tax form I filed.
I’m so relieved. Thank you, diribigal.

Re: PYF: Post things that Happened!
So, my job search has gotten an unexpected boost this week.
First, a job for some IT firm I applied for two months ago got back to me, after being quiet for a month following an email asking if I could legally work in the US (which I can as a US Citizen), so I have a webcast screening call next Tuesday.
Then, another company contacted me through LinkedIn and I had a phone screen with them yesterday, which was promising as they wanted to schedule a follow up skype conversation this monday.
Finally, a job application that I'd originally been turned down for was suddenly reopened and the company - a BIG IT services company for miles around - contacted me for a phone screen this morning. It was a *long* one as the guy asked a bunch of technical stuff and it involved a few things I've gotten rusty on! However, I appear to as satisfied him as now I'm scheduled for another phone conversation - this time with two people - on Monday afternoon, two hours after the skype follow up.
The week before July 4th was when I officially no longer worked for Target last year, leading into the big disaster that was my month in Atlanta with that scam company (who also called me back by chance two months ago as if they had no record of paying me money that I never cashed - pretending that this company hadn't nearly screwed me over the previous summer, I politely declined the recruiter citing family issues and I could not relocate), and then the second disaster that was my week-long job at a bank. Being able to get employment again right before I've fully spent a year unemployed would be really, REALLY nice, and right now there's a better possibility of that then there has for the past several months.

Re: PYF: Post things that Happened!
A lot of good things happened since I last posted here:
- I bonded more with my best friend. We have a bit a mutual crush on each other and exploring that has been adventurous and nice. He's really depressed and socially awkward, beats himself up over tiny things and trivial interactions a lot, and basically hardly ever meets new people because of it. But I've been trying to help him meet new people and it's been a very rewarding experience for the both of us so far!
- I've also been bonding and clicking really well with a gay couple I met. We hang out, go to events together, share and chat about lots of stuff, and have a great time. It's really awesome to be meeting new people within visiting range who are actually great company.
- My dance group has become more accepting and welcoming towards me. They're a lovely hugable bunch of hippies and I don't think I'll stop dancing with them on a weekly basis any time soon. :3
- Kei got me roller skates and I'm having THE GREATEST GAYEST TIME WITH THEM OMG! Yay, I can now actually be outside with something to do without just going from A to B. I really need to be outside more, but I've been extremely anxious to even go out for groceries, and somehow this is helping me a lot. Thank you, Kei!!! <3
- I met another nice trans lady who took away all my anxiety for getting a women's haircut and helped me out with it. I posted a little more about it in the GSM thread.
- Next Thursday I should be picking up my new passport and driver's licence with the correct name and gender, and a new mugshot. :3 No more getting kicked out of the women's bathroom by security!!!
- I finally got help that actually helps! A counselor visits me 3 times a week and helps me out with... Well, pretty much everything I've been having trouble with by myself. She has ties with the local government and knows her way around our bureaucracy, and she's also extremely supportive and understanding and hears me out a lot, which is such a huge relief! I had been having a lot of panic attacks, and during some of them I lashed out at friends while I have absolutely no intention to do so, but if that happens now I can just call her and let her hear me out, calm me down, and start taking steps. I'm so happy and grateful that she came into my life!
Yay, life hasn't been quite as shit!

I kinda made an impromptu pitch for an animated series idea today.
I don't know if this will go anywhere, but we'll see. The guy says he liked it, at least.

Went ahead and wandered into my community's art studio today. Got a bunch of practice exercises done, and the people were really nice, very lively place, got a compliment on my lines. It's really amazing how being among other people makes you want to do stuff. You know, as opposed to sitting alone at home on the computer.
I'll definitely be going back there on Monday.

Re: PYF: Post things that Happened!
I just completed the summary of evidence for my human rights case. All 170 pages of it. Working on the document came with panic attacks, self-harm and blackouts. By the end, I couldn't work on it without a safety person in the room. But it's done. And it's damning.
I hope I can talk about what happened some day. It destroyed me, and I want the truth to come out.

Thanks, guys. This was without a doubt the hardest thing I've ever had to do, and I'm still having trouble believing it's actually done.

I'm on crutches, but I'm starting to be able to put my new apartment together! And in the course of 8 hours yesterday I filed divorce papers and sold the house for a price over what we were expecting.

Re: PYF: Post things that Happened!
Just got a call from a company I interviewed with a week ago - three months of drawn out interviewing finally paid off as they want to offer me a job! Especially nice since I wasn't sure I was going to even get this far but I've still got a lot to work to do in preparing myself. It's mainly working in C# so I need to bone up on my knowledge, but even though it's a few thousand less in annual salary than the bank job that went south fast, I think I'm going to find myself much happier in this position. Plus, I'm two years out from having gotten my degree with no real tech experience to speak of beyond an old internship - I value just having a stable job over more spending cash right now.

Re: PYF: Post things that Happened!
If you know Java then there is barely much trouble finding a stable ground in C#.
I program in C# with Unity and I needed a few weeks to get up to task. I had a few knowledge gaps that a bit of documentation studying could fill these gaps in no time.
Obviously the standard libraries have different interfaces but it's frustrating depending on what you are used to. As said: having a bookmark to the documentation is king (and StackOverflow).
As for language features I prefer it to Java.
The delegate/event system is super convenient to program an observer pattern.
Also quickly learn how to use lambda functions. They are super handy.
I still prefer C++ but C# is the least worse between C# and Java.
OK. That's enough code for today.

Code: Select all
delegate void FooDelegate(bool bla);
event FooDelegate fooEvent;
void foo(){
//set up the event connection
this.fooEvent += bar;
//with -= you deregister the method to the event
}
void bar(bool bla){
//do something upon the fooEvent was invoked
}
void blubb(){
foo();
bool bla = false;
//null check needed because fooEvent is null if there are no registered methods
if(fooEvent != null)
fooEvent.Invoke(bla);
}
Code: Select all
List<int> numbers = new List<int>();
...
//create List of numbers that are smaller than 10
List<int> filternedNumbers = numbers.FindAll(number => number < 10);
OK. That's enough code for today.
