the other versions of this aren't bad, but the GBC version is really unique and mystifying to me

Re: [BEEP BOOP] pyf video game music
boss music is few and far between in these early DQ games, so it's pretty weighty when it does show up

these last two were made for a game called Puppet Kingdom but ended up being used in a neat little game called 10S https://owch.itch.io/10s

Re: [BEEP BOOP] pyf video game music
this one also slaps
these last two tracks were used in Doom: The Golden Souls and its sequel respectively, along with a few others on the album. but these two are the real standouts to me

Re: [BEEP BOOP] pyf video game music
I already posted about this in a different thread, but a Flash Gordon licensed game for the Commodore 64 had this play when you first started it.
And by "this" I mean "these", because yes that's two separate intro songs played back-to-back, like the composer had two ideas for where to go with the main motif and decided "Fuck it, gonna do 'em both." Had this been the kind of game that has end credits, as would be the norm in just a few more years, the second probably would have played over those instead. Bear in mind also, you weren't listening to this as you watched anything or waited for the game to load; it's just a static splash screen that you can instantly skip.
Speaking of both the composer—Rob Hubbard—and end credits themes, he also wrote the music for a game called Monty on the Run. The main theme does play over the gameplay, so you'd be subjected to an endless loop of it, so it's probably for the best that it goes on so long.
That game also had what would have made an excellent end credits theme, which instead played over the high score table that plays when you game over. And... it's kind of hilarious how melodramatic it gets at the minute and a half mark.
I've never said this about a composer before, but it's a fair assessment that Hubbard was ahead of his time.
By the way, if you want a non-YouTube source for these or a bunch of other old game music, I found them on a site called Zophar's Domain. They have downloads too.

I picked up the Pulse remix album for Final Fantasy XIV and have been jamming to it off and on all day. They're all great, but I think my favorite that nobody else has really talked much about is the Thunder Rolls remix:

Re: [BEEP BOOP] pyf video game music
for six years i have been asking "when will someone upload that one really good pushmo world track to youtube?" and the answer to that question was always "when i can find a decent rip and do it myself"
