Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy are always welcome, but so close to the end, did we really need to get in another Daring Do story?

 OK, an episode that boils down to "Daring Do was the asshole" was totally worth it.

This was pretty good. I like Ahuizotl so it was nice to see him again and to see Fluttershy reform him and Caballeron. She has an impressive resume. :allears:

In early years the show likely would've gone mainly on the lesson of Fluttershy demonstrating kindness to Dr. Caballeron and his hench-horses, but I came off thinking the real lesson here was that it's wrong to loot the cultural artifacts of other civilizations out of a desire to "protect" them. In its final season, free from the pressure to win additional funding from Hasbro, FiM could finally start taking on real social issues. :smirk:

But really though, it does leave me to wonder just who all the lost peoples of Equestria are.

I think Fluttershy is ahead of Twilight on reforming evil characters now.

Ahuizotl wasn't really "reformed", per-say. He just hadn't explained his motives before, and once explained, everyone was just like "Oh, okay!" and decided to leave him alone.

EDIT: Also, my random lore question of the week is: Are the promises made under the influence of the amulet magically binding? Can you willfully retroactively make something you said a lie, even though you were sincere at the time? Their eyes glowed when they made the promises, so it was doing something, and a vow or promise requires future information to be come a truth or lie.

One thing I don’t think I’ll miss is Daring Do episodes. But who knows? This one could be great!

• Fluttershy reading a book?! Has Equestria gone topsy-turvy? No seriously, I can’t recall any time Fluts has been shown reading a book. That’s just never been a part of her storylines. It’s certainly not the case that she’s been secretly illiterate for most of the show and only learned how in time for this episode!
• Have we ever met a sphinx on this show? Seems like a thing that would show up at some point.
• I mean let’s be frank, treasure-hunting adventurers do raise a number of troubling colonialism questions.
:ponder: “You know when you think about it, that Joker fellow was right in some ways.”
• Fluts’ concern for spiders and their webs is wonderful.
• Man, you kick ONE puppy and you never hear the end of it. Okay, two puppies.
:offendash: “We know who you really are! And unless you want us to — wait, there’s two t’s in ‘Fluttershy’?”
• I bet somewhere there’s a pony version of CinemaSins that chronicles Daring Do’s inconsistencies in the most pedantic and annoying fashion.
:flutterunsmith: “Palpatine was the real hero of Star Wars.”
• I guess that makes Angel her Short Round.
• That hat :flutterhat:
• Mesoamerican pony gargoyles are neato.
:yay: “Hitler did nothing wrong.”
• Rogue, Withers, and Biff.

you guys this one was so good

We did! In the season 7 Daring Do episode, in fact.

Thanks for the refresher! I don’t remember that episode, like, at all. It’s hell getting old. :granny:

The problem there is that in his first actual appearance, he's trying to create an 800 year heatwave. Some fans have speculated that he was just trying to deter thieves, but severely screwing up the local ecosystem to make things slightly more inconvenient for would-be tomb raiders is kind of hard to swallow.

On the plus side, it was interesting how they handled their "get both sides of the story" moral: we see examples of conflicts being resolved as a result of listening to the other side, but when Caballeron is forced to admit that he was in it for the money all along, we get the message that results aren't guaranteed (that some people actually are every bit the butthole they appear to be).
