Re: The Last Bronycon: A Fandom Autopsy
It's a really good retrospective but I feel really weird about her making big judgements on the latter half of the show that she didn't watch for having too many brony references when it literally didn't? There were literally only two fandom focused episodes: the 100th and the one that relentlessly mocks obsessive fandom, which is super anti-brony in sentiment. I do not know where she's coming from with that point at all.

Now I just have to look up what "harrow" means.

Re: The Last Bronycon: A Fandom Autopsy
Just watched this video and got nostalgic enough to make an account here. Used to post here all the way back in 2012. Happy to see this place, my favorite brony hangout, is still live and kicking. So many other pony websites I looked at today are either ghost towns or non-existent.
Looking back, it's so weird to think about how huge this fandom really was back then. We had like 20 conventions in a year and all of them were packed! Crowds of hundreds in line to pay $20 for an autograph of the guy who says 'eeyup'! Millions of views in a single day when the 1080p rendering of an episode was up on Youtube! Pound Puppies could never.
Hope everyone has been doing well since the end of the fandom heyday. I've been kind of ashamed of this part of my past, but watching this video opened up floodgates of nostalgia and makes me wish I had gone to at least one convention way back when.
Scared to watch the show in case it doesn't hold up. Friendship is Witchcraft sure does.

Re: The Last Bronycon: A Fandom Autopsy
Based on the clips she showed, the "later episodes" she was talking about started with the Derpy scene way back in season two, so it's likely she checked out even earlier than I did—at or around the 100th episode, since she has clearly seen that—and assumed the trend didn't stop. You'll notice that the Daring Do convention episode didn't even get a mention; I have a hard time believing she'd avoid showing a clip of it on purpose.Perpetual Motion wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 7:20 pmIt's a really good retrospective but I feel really weird about her making big judgements on the latter half of the show that she didn't watch for having too many brony references when it literally didn't? I remember an out-of-context screenshot of that one alternate-universe episode circulating with people assuming it was a Fallout: Equestria reference or something, so it's very possible her only exposure to the later seasons were other people's misinterpretations of episodes they also had not seen.

Re: The Last Bronycon: A Fandom Autopsy
That ending is more optimistic than I expected. Are bronies really a subspecies of furry now? I've never felt so legitimate.
I didn't know John de Lancie doesn't like bronies. I sympathize, although that documentary is cynical and frames autism in problematic ways.
I have a much higher opinion of the later seasons than Nicholson does. The existence of bronies did affect the show more than I would have preferred, though. There's an actual Daring Do body pillow in an episode in the background. I've also heard too many stories of kids having bad interactions with the fandom, and I still think Lauren Faust left in part because bronies commandeered something she made for very specific and conscious reasons that had nothing to do with amusing adult men.
What gets me is that, however much I complain, I'd probably be a worse person if this show hadn't gotten popular, mostly because of the friends I made. I've encountered so much more of queer culture than I otherwise would have, too. And I even got to think of myself as a writer for a couple years! Thousands of enthusiastic readers of my fanfic every time I posted a chapter. I felt so fulfilled. This whole internet pony thing has benefited me massively over the years, and I worry that this happened at someone else's expense.

Bronies are diet furries, according to a couple of fursuiters at BC last year. I saw them standing around outside the "How To Become A Furry" (featuring Brony Celebrity JHaller) panel room.

Re: The Last Bronycon: A Fandom Autopsy
The registration hall and Mane Event's Hall were right next to each other, separated by a pipe-and-drape barrier. Since registration closed around noon on Sunday, someone had the idea to dig up a spare screen and projector, hook it up to a stream of what was on stage, and have the BCC bring out chairs. That last-minute change helped at least a thousand more people see closing ceremonies (almost) live.

No.
That's Blackjack from Fallout: Equestria: Project Horizons.
By the cyborg leggies that's after she died once.
