I wonder if the song in this episode would've been quite so beloved by the fandom had it first been heard later in the series. While the song was nice enough on its own, it is also the show's first major musical number (vs. Pinkie Pie's many random songs), so I imagine that had a lot to do with it too.

For sure, though it really is just a fun and catchy tune on top of that.

That's one of the great things about Pony, the songs don't go in one ear and out the other. You remember them, and they stay with you.

Saddles, how do they work?
Not good enough to make it comfortable for Spike after the intro.

Even sticking to the realm of things that real-life horses might wear, as was the early S1 custom, one of those big horse blankets would still be more effective winter wear than a saddle.

Rewatching parts of season 1, and especially this one, made me notice that the first season had a lot of slapstick.
The later episodes gradually had less and less of this kind of humour. At least it feels to me.
Winter Wrap-Up is surely a treasure-trove for that.

This Christmas Eve the episode will be 7 years old.
But...
This one's too young
