This episode showed the lesson that following a shadowy and hooded person into dangerous woods is a great idea for children.
I know that I'm twisting the real lesson of the episode but it's fun.

What really bothered me here was that it felt like everyone acted like idiots in this episode for the sake of a plot. It's really difficult to believe that the whole town would be this scared of the person who hasn't done anything threatening. The way Twilight was written was the oddest IMO. She started the episode as being the most reasonable of the group but towards the end of the episode she became as prejudiced as other ponies but at the end she was again logical.
Zecora was pretty nice character and there some funny moments here and there in the episode but overall the episode was mediocre.
